Congratulations on all your incredible achievements with Jewelz Foundation Inc. and Droppin Jewelz LLC! What inspired you to create a platform focused on youth leadership, emotional wellness, and storytelling?
Kendra: Thank you! My journey has always been about purpose — turning my own experiences into tools that uplift and empower others. I created Jewelz Foundation Inc. and Droppin Jewelz LLC because I know firsthand how much mentorship, emotional resilience, and personal storytelling can transform lives. As someone who overcame immense challenges at a young age, I wanted to ensure that young people, especially those navigating adversity, have access to guidance, resources, and a space to develop their voice. Leadership, emotional wellness, and storytelling are all deeply connected — when young people feel seen, heard, and empowered, they lead differently, heal differently, and inspire differently.
Your nonprofit initiatives, such as the monthly teen summits, tackle vital topics like mental health and personal development. What has been the most rewarding moment from these events so far?
Kendra: There have been so many powerful moments, but the most rewarding is seeing young people come in one way and leave transformed. Whether it’s a teen who starts off withdrawn but, by the end, is actively participating or a young leader who realizes their potential, those breakthroughs matter. One moment that stands out is a teen who, after one of our summits, shared how the discussion on emotional literacy helped them process their own feelings in a way they never had before. They felt seen, validated, and equipped with tools to communicate and heal. Those are the moments that make everything worth it.
As an author, you’ve written books that empower and uplift. With Unbroken Jewelz on the horizon, what message do you hope readers take away from these stories of resilience and healing?
Kendra: Unbroken Jewelz is a deeply personal project because it captures real stories of surviving heartbreak, betrayal, loss, and the journey back to self. The message is simple: You are not alone, and your brokenness does not define you. Healing is possible, even in the deepest pain. Each story is raw, unfiltered, and layered with truth, but they all lead to a greater understanding that even in our hardest seasons, there is purpose. I want readers to walk away feeling empowered to own their story and move forward with strength.
Please tell us about your future initiatives, events, or book releases as well as any other exclusive news you would like to share.
Kendra: There’s a lot in the works! We’re expanding Jewelz Foundation Inc.’s initiatives, including our Dream More Teen Summit and wellness programs. I’m also finalizing my book Get Fit at Work: 50 Quick 10-Minute Office Workouts, which will provide practical ways to incorporate movement into busy schedules. Beyond that, I’m developing wellness programs that blend holistic self-care with intentional lifestyle changes. And, of course, Survivor’s Jewelz will be returning for another season with powerful conversations on resilience and faith.
Wellness is a recurring theme in your initiatives and upcoming projects. How do you personally define holistic well-being, and what inspired your new wellness programs launching this year?
Kendra: To me, holistic well-being is about balance — mind, body, and soul. It’s not just about working out or eating well; it’s about self-awareness, emotional healing, and nurturing your spirit. I was inspired to create these wellness programs because I’ve seen how much healing work is needed, especially in our communities. Wellness should be accessible, practical, and something people can integrate into their daily lives. My approach includes everything from fitness to emotional resilience strategies, self-care routines, and even red light therapy and wood therapy techniques that I personally use.
Storytelling is such a powerful tool for connection and growth. What advice would you give to someone who wants to share their story but doesn’t know where to begin?
Kendra: Start with your truth. A lot of people hesitate because they feel like their story isn’t ‘big enough’ or ‘worthy’ of sharing. But the reality is, someone out there needs your perspective, your lessons, and your voice. Write without judgment. If you don’t know where to start, begin with a journal entry, a voice note, or even bullet points of significant moments. Most importantly, don’t try to make it perfect — just get it out. Your story has value, and when you embrace it, you give others permission to do the same.
As someone who wears many hats — author, entrepreneur, nonprofit leader, and podcast host — how do you maintain balance and ensure you’re prioritizing self-care?
Kendra: Balance is an ongoing process, but I’ve learned that I can’t pour from an empty cup. I set boundaries with my time and energy, and I make sure to have routines that keep me grounded. Whether it’s taking time for prayer, getting in a quick workout, or just unplugging from social media, I prioritize what refuels me. I’ve also learned to delegate where I can and give myself grace when I need to pause.
